Sherkala is a solitary mountain of unusual shape, located in the Mangystau region of Kazakhstan. From one side, it resembles a huge white yurt, while from another, Sherkala looks like a sleeping lion resting its massive head on its paws.
The name “Sherkala” comes from the Persian language and means “Lion’s Fortress” or “Fortress of the Lion.” It takes at least an hour to walk around Sherkala. It is considered one of the sacred places of Mangystau and is a popular tourist attraction.
