Zhygylgan

Zhygylgan (translated from Kazakh as “fallen land”) is a huge depression on the shore of the Caspian Sea.

The depression has a circular shape with a diameter of about 10 kilometers and represents the ruins of a limestone slab that once formed the surface of the Tupkaragan Plateau. As a result of karst phenomena, a giant layer of limestone collapsed, creating a chaotic mass of fractured blocks.

The sheer cliffs of the depression reach up to 50 meters in height and continue to crumble. From the top of the plateau, there is a panoramic view of the Caspian Sea.

The maximum height of Cape Zhygylgan is 200 meters, and the diameter of the “Collapse” basin is 4 kilometers.
