Boszhira Tract

The Boszhira tract is one of the most beautiful places in Kazakhstan, representing a whole ridge of rock formations of different sizes and shapes. Here also stands the mountain of the same name, reaching 287 meters at its peak. At the entrance to the tract, peculiar “fangs” — remnants of rocks — serve as the landmark of this place.
In one of the Kazakh dialects, the word boszhira means “pale valley” or “gray land.” The valley is so full of light, colors, and rhythm that it takes your breath away. It feels as if nature gave free rein to its imagination here, resulting in an extraordinary landscape. The mountain ridge lies at the bottom of a huge canyon, which enhances the visual effect even more.
The history of Boszhira is closely connected with the Tethys Ocean and the creatures that inhabited it. Over millions of years, the ocean changed, exposing land in some places while flooding others.
All the rocks of the tract are composed of sandstone and chalk layers.
Throughout the territory, one can still often find fossilized algae, shells, mollusk remains, and even teeth of ancient sharks and other marine creatures.
