Kok-Kala Gorge is a small canyon with bizarre colorful cliffs, where multicolored layers of limestone, clay, and ancient deposits are mixed. Scientists have determined that these rocks date back to the Jurassic period. The name “Kok-Kala” translates as “Blue Fortress” or “Blue Mountain.”
The Earth’s tectonics caused a huge layer of prehistoric rock to rise above the surrounding land, and later water, wind, and time finally revealed this natural wonder. The dark layers in the cliffs are traces of Jurassic plants. Scientists have determined that the remains of the ancient forest are 170–200 million years old!
